What’s on the CDL Permit Exam?

The CDL Permit Exam consists of three parts:

General Knowledge (50 questions)
Air Brakes (25 questions)
Combination Vehicles (25 questions).

To obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP), you must pass all three sections with a score of 80% or better. The CLP is required to begin behind-the-wheel CDL training, which will help prepare you for the exam. If you do not pass the written exam, you can retake it.
